Gardens have long been one of humanity’s greatest pleasures and, over the centuries, the art of gardening has undoubtedly been perfected. Across the globe, stunningly-designed gardens remain showpiece attractions that draw the attention of tourists and beauty-seekers alike, with the following five gardens particularly renowned for their beauty…

Keukenhof, Lisse, Netherlands

Being located in the Netherlands, it should come as no surprise to learn that Keukenhof’s star attractions are its tulips. This garden is renowned for its incredible beauty and vibrant colours; to achieve the effect, around seven million bulbs are planted each year in the spring. In total, there are thirty alternating plant and flower shows available at Keukenhof, a windmill, seven complete inspirational gardens, and much more contained within the 32-hectare garden.

A number of years ago, Asian-inspired gardens were the choice for anyone looking for a sophisticated garden aesthetic here in the UK. In many cases, the inspiration for those designs came from the carefully-crafted majesty of the Kenrokuen Garden in Kanazawa. The garden’s name - Kenrokuen - translates as “six factors” in honour of the six attributes the garden is thought to possess: spaciousness, artifice, antiquity, water sources, spaciousness, and a magnificent view. Thanks to a simple, stately design, bridges, cleverly-chosen plants, and a number of water features, Kenrokuen is undeniably one of the most beautiful gardens the world has to offer.

The Palace of Versailles is particularly renowned for the architecture of the palace and its famed Hall of Mirrors, but the garden is a particular highlight. In total, the garden spans over 800 hectares, and every inch has been refined to create a splendour that few modern gardens are able to match. As well as the perfectly-manicured lawns, the garden at Versailles is particularly famed for its fountains, which visitors can see in all their glory during the spectacle known as the Grandes Eaux each year.

This stunning garden - which is particularly famed for its 3,000 rosebushes - was originally designed as a private garden of Archduke Ludwig van Remy, but opened to the public in 1825. Since then, the garden has become a popular tourist attraction in Vienna, providing a tranquil retreat from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding city.

Last but not least, it would be impossible to discuss the beautiful gardens of the world without mentioning Kew Gardens. The gardens, which are spread over 130 hectares, are considered to be one of the most diverse collections of plants in the world. For those visiting the gardens, the Treetop Walkway is particularly well-regarded, while the Great Broad Walk Borders are home to over 60,000 different plants in total.

Having read through the above, you may find yourself keen to begin planning projects that can help your outdoor space achieve a similar level of appeal to those as mentioned above. Perhaps you could add a water feature, or create gravel beds for an uber-modern look; either way, using the most beautiful gardens in the world as inspiration for your own gardening endeavours is sure to be a positive choice!
